Every Thursday afternoon, two students in Cuenca, Ecuador connect with their teacher in Victoria, BC for piano lessons — over WhatsApp.
It’s a small but meaningful continuation of the music program that helped shape the early days of the Cuenca English Club. Back when we had a school band at Dolores Torres, we discovered that learning English could open far more doors than music alone. Yet music never disappeared — it simply found a new rhythm.
Today, those lessons remind us that creativity and learning belong together. Around the world, education programs talk about STEAM, not just STEM — because the Arts matter too. And so, in our own way, we keep that spirit alive, one piano key at a time.
